Millicent shuffled into the Magical Menagerie with a sigh. Her mother had seen fit to send her into the shop with enough money to purchase a pet for Hogwarts. She wasn't quite sure why she needed a pet, especially one that would be cooped up in the school when there was a good chance it wanted to be outside and free. Her father had insisted that wild animals enjoyed being free and could take care of themselves. Thinking back to that conversation she wondered if her father had simply been placating her. She had been five at the time and annoyed that her mother refused to let a stay cat into the house. It was likely that he wanted to avoid a case of the silent treatment she enjoyed giving as a child.
She walked through the aisles looking at some of the odder creatures with curiosity before ambling toward a loud and slightly annoying sound. Turning a corner she spied the source of the sound and stopped. In front of her was a plump black furry kitten with orange spotted paws. At the sight of her the kitten stopped it's ridiculous howling and looked at her quizzically before using the bottom of Millicent's robes as a scratching post.

Millicent looked at the woman blankly for a minute and watched as she removed the cat from the bottom of her robes and placed it in a cage. The sight of the bulky animal being caged made her cringe. She disliked small spaces, though she wouldn't admit that to anyone but her father. Friends of her parents looked at her and wondered how she could favour her father over her mother, the answer was simple. Robert Bulstrode accepted that his daughter was not stick think, and disliked beauty products and fashion. He had accepted her size where her mother insisted on trying any number of fad diets. Millicent looked at the black furred cat and saw a creature that needed acceptance. "I would like to buy that cat," she cleared her throat and wondered if she had just decided the fate of every article of clothing she owned.

Alexis turned around and looked at the girl. She was in wonder why such a beautiful girl would want a cat like this."Um,you want this cat? This cat in this cage. The fat one?"Alexis was in shock. The cat has been in the store for about a year and no one has wanted him yet.Well,um.she wants this cat.So i cna't complain with that can I?Well the customer gets what the customer wants."Ok,um."Alexis stood there looking like an idiot.

Millicent frowned at the description of the cat, it seemed that size played an important role in describing anything. She didn't believe that the cat looked fat, simply bulky and clearly unwanted by anyone but her. Anne Bulstrode would have a fit when she saw the pet her daughter purchased, but that was simply another reason for wanting the caged critter. Her mother was a constant source of criticism that Millicent tried to ignore. It was a difficult task, but with her father's support she had slowly built up a protective wall around herself. "Yes, that one," she replied pointing to the cat who had scratched at her robes. She refused to call the cat fat.

Alexis grabbed the cage of the cat and set it on the counter at in front of the store."Deary, come you come here for a second?"Alexis looked at the cat through the bars of the cage."Do you want anyhting else for your, kitty?"Alexis looked at the girl and beamed at her."We have collars ,and leashes. We have food and bowls...Anything you need for your cat."ALexis was glad now becuase she relixed this would be her first sale for the longest of times.

Millicent looked around the store awkwardly. Though she had intended on purchasing a pet for Hogwarts she had chosen the cat on a whim. Her mother would refer to her choice of pet as regrettable, and her father would tease her about being softhearted. She wasn't soft hearted she simply didn't like the idea of leaving the cat in a cage. "I'll take a collar, small food bowl and cat food," she replied hesitantly. She hadn't had a pet before, and wasn't quite sure what it needed other than the basics.

Alexis smiled at the cat and she went to the back to get the items. She brought back a collar and a small food bowl. She leaned over and picked up a box of cat nip."If this all you want?"Alexis looked at Millicent again.Alexis looked really happy that she was selling the cat everyone disliked.Well maybe i will have more business once i sell this catAlexis smiled at the thought.

Millicent nodded, while the cat was her first pet she knew the essentials, and that was all she needed. She glanced at the ball of fur and wondered what she was supposed to name it. Names were something that should be felt, not simply picked out of a name book. At times she wondered if her name was felt, it amused her that her name was derived from German and was associated with labour and strength. The cat's name needed to fit the creature, and she planned to put some thought into her familiar's name. Familiar... not just a pet but her companion, one destined to find her. Few people expected her to think things through, let alone something as philosophical as a familiar.

Alexis was calculating what the total would be for the stuff Millicent was getting. She looked over again and again and figured she had the wrong numbers on the list. She ran back in the storage room to check the real numbers. She was so cunfused with all the new stuff she has to deal with.

Millicent shifted on the spot she was standing and waited. She looked at the cat and decided that it reminded her of shadows with a light that seemed to escape at the bottom where her paws were. The black fur reminded her of her own hair, nothing anyone would take a second look at but a dark black. The only exception being the bright patch of orange on the cat’s over sized paws. “Senka,” she whispered to the cat giving her a name.

Alexis came back with a smile on her face."Ok,it totals out to be 115 galleons please."She put the items in a bag and laid them on the counter. She loked at Millicent with a huge grin still on her face."Sorry,i am new to this so everything got mixed up"She looked down again at the cat."Do you have a name for the little bugger yet?"

Millicent nodded, and placed the appropriate amount of galleons onto the counter. “Senka, it means Shadow,” she answered. The four word sentence was typical of her, she simply disliked using a large number of words. Long sentences meant that she was socializing, revealing too much about herself and that information could be used against her. It was a cynical point of view, especially for an eleven year old, but she had grown up with a mother who had decided her daughter needed to change. It had made her feel as though she were being pulled in different directions, and away from herself.

She nodded at the girl. She was filling out a form for the owner ship of the cat."Nice name, here can you sign this?"She handed over the form to Millicent.Alexis looked at the cat wondeing if it was even still alive. She then pushed ther bag forth on the table closer to Millicent.

Millicent looked over the form and nodded before she signed it. She liked to look over things, her observation skills being one of her finer qualities. Looking over forms, essays, and even notes meant that she knew them well, and she had learned to memorize quickly. Millicent picked up the bag and picked up Senka who seemed as content as she had when she when she had scratched at the hem of Millicent’s robes. “Thank you.”
